Councillor for Partick East/Kelvindale
Jill was elected as a Glasgow City Councillor at the Partick East/Kelvindale by-election which took place on Thursday 18th March 2021.
Jill lives locally in the ward and has done for more than 20 years with her husband John and two children, who attend the local primary school. She is a solicitor so as a working mum understands the pressures of working parents particularly at the moment when many people are juggling work with homeschooling.
Jill played a leading role in the recent Notre Dame High For All campaign to let boys and girls attend Notre Dame High. This campaign, supported by local parents and young people, was successful in ensuring that Notre Dame High School will be a co-educational learning environment from August this year, allowing all children from the local area to attend their local secondary school. It took three years to bring about that change and Jill is passionate about closing the educational attainment gap for every child in our City and believes she could contribute more to this community if elected.
As a local resident and candidate she understands the impact that cuts to funding for Glasgow from Holyrood budgets have on the delivery of local services – good quality local services are a must and that means making sure our bins are emptied, streets cleaned, bus routes are operating and more now than ever that our open spaces such as parks are accessible and well maintained. She believes we must support our social care staff doing such important work in our communities. These are the priorities of people in this area and across the city. These are Jill’s priorities.
